Combating Water Hyacinths to Prevent Flooding: SMCC and MENRO Collaboration
We have established partnerships with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Offices (MENRO) to remove water hyacinths from the Balagtas and Guiguinto Rivers. 🌊🚜🌿
Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co., Ltd. (SMCC) has teamed up with the Balagtas and Guiguinto MENRO to tackle the issue of water hyacinth growth in local rivers. This partnership focuses on efficiently removing these invasive plants using mechanical excavators and thru their workforce. The collected water hyacinths are then transported to disposal facilities managed by the respective local government units.
This ongoing effort is crucial for reducing flood risks, as water hyacinths can block waterways and contribute to flooding. By removing these plants, the initiative helps prevent floods and improve river health. The collaboration demonstrates a commitment to regular monitoring, maintenance and enhancing the community’s resilience to water-related issues. SMCC and the municipal offices are dedicated to keeping the rivers clear and ensuring a safer community.
